I am interested in the symbolism of the
American flag and where its franchise came from. I explore the transformation
of meaning of the flag from the time I was still living in Hungary in
the eighties through 9/11 to its present symbolic flow. The flag represents a shadow of ideal
glory and strength. Its significance has shifted from a symbol of patriotism
and nationalism into a symbol of hate and aggression and false ideals
for many people, but still gives hope to some. It is a representation
of our fragile system that is structured on symbols which are in constant
transition. The number of pieces for the specific
exhibition can fluctuate, but when the paintings are shown individually
they become an undesirable relic. The paintings are dark grey and almost
black with elements of the flag Tamas Veszi Dark Matter-40 feet installation |
